ANNOUNCEMENT:

Hi, everyone!

As discussed in class, we are not meeting for lecture the Tuesday of this week (Tue Feb 11), so I provided a lecture video instead. It turns out I've lost my voice 🙀 -- good thing I had these videos ready!

I will be available this Tuesday (Feb 11) via Zoom from 1:45-2:45pm (Zoom link is hereLinks to an external site.) Feel free to drop by if you want to address anything. I ask that you come prepared with specific questions because (1) lecture video is available, and, (2) I'm on 'voice rest' because I really did lose my voice so I will be whispering (you'll be able to hear me, I've tested it).

Keep reading. There's important info in this message.

In lieu of a live class this week, everyone is expected to watch the first 80 minutes of the Ch 15 lecture video provided at the link below. I recommend watching it during our regular class time since you have that time anyway. When we return on Tuesday, I will assume everyone has read the textbook chapter titled 'Ch 15: Firms in Competitive Markets' and has watched the first 80 minutes of the lecture video. Whatever you do, do not put off watching the video until the last minute.

Ch 15 Lecture Video (click here)

⚠️ Everyone is expected to watch the first 80 minutes of the lecture video by the time we meet on Tuesday, Dec 3rd. ⚠️

You are highly encouraged to watch the rest of the video as well.

When we return on Tuesday, December 3rd, I will assume everyone has read 'Ch 15: Firms in Competitive Markets' and has watched at least the first 80 minutes of the lecture video posted below. We will jump right into covering the third and fourth cases when we return. Be sure to come prepared so that you are not lost.

Most of the written response section of Exam 4 will be on the 'four cases' drawn in detail in this video. Yes, I am telling you what will be on the exam. You will be asked to draw two of the four cases, including all of the details (e.g., show total revenue, total cost, profit/loss). They aren't easy, so do not take this lecture lightly. Remember, Exam 4 cannot be dropped.

A part of Chapter 16 on monopolies will also be on the exam. You're only responsible for what is mentioned in class when we meet. We will cover the monopoly model in class on Tuesday. Once students understand competitive markets from Ch 15, it's easy to model the monopoly case -- this assumes you come prepared, of course. As mentioned in class,  HW Ch 16 is no longer required and is listed as practice in MindTap. HW Ch15 is still required.

Chapter 18 is dropped altogether.

As a reminder, here's what we have left in terms of deadlines:

  • Ch 15 Discussion -- Sunday

  • MindTap HW Ch15 -- Tuesday,  Dec 3rd Wednesday

  • Exam 4 -- Chapters 14, 15, and the part of 16 covered in class-- Thursday

  • Final Exam -- Thursday 11:00-12:20pm (regular length but different start time)

Alright, that's about it! Do yourself a solid by watching the lecture video soon and taking notes!

COME PREPARED!
